A guided afternoon exploring Faroese history, the landscapes surrounding Tórshavn and the capital’s historic streets.
After Friday’s NordAN conference sessions, join a four-hour excursion through Tórshavn Municipality. The route combines panoramic views, the historic village of Kirkjubøur, a mountain-road viewpoint and a guided walk through old Tórshavn.
Meet the local guide and depart from Tórshavn. During the drive, hear about Faroese history, society and modern island life. A short photo stop offers views across the city, harbour, Nólsoy and surrounding mountains.
Explore the Faroe Islands’ historic and cultural centre, including St. Olav’s Church, the ruins of Magnus Cathedral and the surrounding historic village.
Continue along the old mountain road to a viewpoint near Norðradalur, with views towards Koltur, Hestur and Vágar on clear days. If Faroese horses are grazing near the road, the guide may make a brief stop to see them and discuss the local breed.
Finish with a guided walk through Tinganes, Reyn, the harbour area, Vaglið and the old narrow lanes. Hear stories of Faroese history, politics, architecture and everyday life before returning to the hotel or conference venue.
Coach transport, a local guide and admission are included in Greengate’s four-hour offer. Coffee and cake are not included; participants may wish to bring water or another drink.
The tour includes a guided walk through the historic centre and brief outdoor viewpoint stops.
Bring a windproof and waterproof outer layer. Scenic views and horse sightings depend on conditions on the day.
The exact departure location in Tórshavn will be shared with participants when final arrangements are confirmed.
